Barry Greenstein is an American professional poker player who is known in poker by his nickname The Robin Hood of Poker, or The Bear. Barry Greenstein was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1954. He has said it was his dad who turned him onto poker at a very early age. Barry Greenstein went to the University of Illinois where he was awarded a bachelor’s of science degree in computer science. His intention was to continue on and get a doctorate in mathematics, but dropped out before finishing his dissertation. Barry Greenstein worked for Symantec Corporation until 1991 when he decided to become a full time professional poker player.

Barry Greenstein entered professional poker at the relatively late age of 36. In the time he has been a professional poker player he has won three World Series of Poker bracelets and has had 37 money finishes. He has also had 14 money finishes in World Poker Tours and holds two titles. In addition to his success in professional poker, Barry Greenstein wrote a book entitled Ace on the River which he has been known to give autographed copies out to whatever player eliminates him in a series and will then show them the details of the hand. Greenstein also plays online at Poker Stars under the name barryg1. He has appeared on numerous television programs in many tournaments and as of 2008 has live tournament winnings of $6,400.000. 

Barry Greenstein is sometimes referred t as The Robin Hood of Poker because at one time he donated all his tournament winnings to charity. Children, Incorporated was the primary benefactor of his charitable donations. He was once bet $10,000 to say the words lol donkaments on an episode of High Stakes Poker which he did and in addition to the $10,000, received $27,000 from other charitable players who found the bet amusing. 

Barry Greenstein makes his home in Ranchos Palos Verdes, California and has two children and four stepchildren. One of his step children Joe Sebok has followed in his step father’s footsteps and also become a professional poker player. Barry Greenstein has come a long way from his job at Symantec and has enjoyed great success as a professional poker player and philanthropist. He continues to further his career as a professional poker player with no signs of ever slowing down. Barry Greenstein is considered a super star of professional poker players.
